2002 Chrysler Prowler

The Prowler was a concept vehicle that moved into production with only minimal design changes. The Plymouth Prowler was a wildly popular concept at Detroit's 1993 North American International Auto Show, designed to evoke memories of and pay tribute to the uniquely American street rod. Eventual production was spurred by intense demand from hopeful buyers forwarding unsolicited deposit checks to Chrysler long before production was seriously planned.

Production commenced in early 1997 at Chrysler's Conner Avenue Detroit plant. As the first 'Plymouth-only' vehicle from Chrysler in years, it joined the Plymouth catalog for 1997 and outlived the marque's cancellation, being rebranded in 2001 as a Chrysler vehicle. Finished in the eye-catching color of Chrysler Yellow, this Prowler is 1 of just 390 US examples and 1 of 420 in total to be finished in this color.

The total amount of Prowlers built is 11,702, but only 3,170 were built between 2001 and 2002 under the Chrysler name, making them a harder breed to come across. This Prowler has only been with two previous owners before being acquired by the Grand Rapids Classics Auto Museum and serves as a time capsule with very few miles on the odometer. 5-liter SOHC V-6 engine with four valves per cylinder, mated to a 42LE Auto-Stick four-speed transmission with manual-shift capability housed in a rear transaxle.

The exposed front suspension components and front cycle-type fenders completed the vintage street-rod look. The sporty yet luxurious interior features a tachometer on the steering column, leather upholstery, air-conditioning, cruise control, and a premium stereo.
