1967 Ford Mustang Convertible

Once the corral was opened in the Spring of 1964, the stampede was on in the 'pony-car' race, and running far in the lead was the Ford Mustang. To meet the challenge of incoming competition, a mild restyling was ordered for the 1967 model year. The Grand Rapids Classics Auto Museum acquired this rare Mustang from The Woodford No Reserve Collection in Georgia in the fall of 2024 at the Worldwide Auctioneers 54th Annual Auburn Auction and Show.

What makes this example so rare is that it left the factory equipped with a 390 cubic-inch V-8 engine — the largest engine available for the Mustang in '67. Documented by a Marti Report and a copy of what the original window sticker would have been, this example was factory finished in charming Springtime Yellow over a black vinyl interior with bucket seats. Originally built at the Metuchen, New Jersey factory on July 24th, 1967, it was sold new September 23rd at Sheehy Ford Inc in Marlow Heights, DC.

Along with the rare engine and color, it was sold new with factory power disc brakes, power steering, an AM radio, wheel covers, and a black power convertible top with glass backlite. Since then, it has been tastefully upgraded with a four-speed manual transmission. The Marti Report reveals this example is 1 of just two Mustangs to be so equipped from the factory.
