1956 Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupé

Introduced in 1954 at Earls Court, the Jaguar XK140 was more refined than its sensational XK120 predecessor, with the engine repositioned three inches further forward and rack-and-pinion steering adopted from the racing C-Type. The XK140 Drophead Coupé was the elite model, appointed for ultimate luxurious open-air touring with its opulent wooden dash, comfortable leather seats, roll-up windows, and all-weather convertible top. According to its JDHT Certificate, this example was completed in early October 1956 and originally finished in Pastel Blue over red interior, dispatched to Jaguar Cars New York for retail.

By the early 2000s, owner Bill Ross of Alamo, California commenced a 21-month restoration by KATS British Car Service of Englewood, Colorado — including a media blast, cylinder head rebuild, all-new brake components, stainless-steel exhaust, porcelain exhaust headers, rebuilt radiator, new wiring harness, and a complete reseal of engine, gearbox, and differential. Sold in 2006 by the Blackhawk Collection via their Pebble Beach Exposition sale, it eventually entered the Grand Rapids Classics Auto Museum in early 2023. Refinished in a darker and very attractive Pacific Blue over tan leather with matching dark blue carpeting, the interior is trimmed in sumptuous leather accented with wood polished to perfection.
