1937 Cord 812 SC Sportsman Cabriolet

Gordon Buehrig's work is on full display in this factory-supercharged 1937 Cord 812 Supercharged Cabriolet, finished in timeless Cigarette Cream over a maroon interior. Buehrig — who at 25 was Chief Body Designer for Duesenberg — is credited with the pinnacle of his talent in the Cord 810/812: clean lines, precise curves, and near-perfect proportions, topped off with a supercharged eight-cylinder engine and elegant side pipes. This example was under the ownership of well-known collector Tony Ficco from late 2001 to the fall of 2023, who acquired it from the late Douglas C.

'Buzz' O'Connor — one of the first Cord collectors ever to drive his car to Auburn, Indiana from the West Coast, and among the first to get his car ACD-certified in 1982. Buzz acquired this 812 SC in 1980 and called upon Phil McCurdy in Washington for a thorough restoration using only original and NOS parts, resulting in a personal invitation to display on the lawn at Pebble Beach. Under Ficco's care, noted ACD authority Rick Zieger stated during re-certification that this was the most accurate and correct Sportsman he had ever encountered and that it should be the benchmark for judging and restoration.

Documented on its ACD Club Certification, signed off by Paul Bryant and Jim O'Brien, with its original tag still attached, this 812 retains its original numbers-matching engine and components. Winner of a CCCA Senior and Primary 1st Award, as well as Best Cord at the ACD Club Annual Reunion. As 1 of only 64 original factory supercharged examples, it is one of the most desirable Cords one will find.
