1933 Plymouth PD Rumble Seat Convertible Coupe

Coming out of the Great Depression, Plymouth made a mid-year introduction of the new longer-wheelbase PD model with sleek new long fenders, hood, and radiator shell design. The PD quickly became Plymouth's most popular model — by the end of 1933 it was outselling any single Ford or Chevrolet model, the only time Plymouth ever achieved that status. Of the 88,000+ PDs delivered, just 4,596 were the desirable Rumble Seat Convertible Coupe.

This highly original example was lovingly restored in 2019–2020, taken down to bare metal and redone from the ground up including the frame. Fresh beige paint with maroon accents was applied over accurately restored bodywork, all chrome trim was refreshed or replaced, and the classic Flying Lady radiator mascot looks brand new. A new convertible top and fresh wide whitewall tires on 17-inch painted wire wheels complete the exterior.

Inside, fresh and correct upholstery in the correct shades front and rear, all original gauges in working order. The correct inline six-cylinder engine idles smoothly, mated to a three-speed manual with a downdraft Carter carburetor, producing 70 horsepower fully capable of modern highway speeds. Acquired by the Grand Rapids Classics Auto Museum in April of 2024.
